Pediatric Hypospadias

What is Pediatric Hypospadias

Hypospadias is a congenital condition where the urethral opening is located on the underside of the penis rather than at the tip. Understanding the type of hypospadias is the first step towards effective paediatric hypospadias repair.

Our team of hypospadias surgeons customise the surgery techniques based on the severity of your child’s condition.

Glanular / Coronal Hypospadias

In glanular or coronal hypospadias, the opening is located at or near the head of the penis (glans). It is typically the most common and least severe form but may still require correction for function and cosmetic appearance. Correction often involves moving the opening to the tip.

Midshaft Hypospadias

Midshaft hypospadias occurs when the urethral opening is located along the middle of the shaft of the penis. This condition often presents with a more complex set of challenges, including chordee, and may require multi-stage surgical correction to reposition the opening and straighten the shaft.

Penoscrotal / Perineal Hypospadias

This is a more severe form where the urethral opening is at the junction of the penis and scrotum, or even on the perineum. Management is highly complex, almost always involving multiple detailed surgeries. Common associated conditions like micropenis and bifid scrotum are addressed simultaneously.

When is Hypospidas Surgery Needed?
